Phantoms girls’ time to shine

-

It was Phantoms female teams’ turn to shine when they took to the court in Bendigo for round seven of Victorian Volleyball League.

The division-two girls got the day underway with a four-set win over Monash White, with Kara Johnson, Eadie Garthlindsay and Laelah Robertson all contributing.

Division-three girls had a return match against Yarra and managed to reverse the result from four weeks earlier when their opponents smashed them in four sets. Tamikah Dockrill, in her new role as an opposite, played her best game of the season. The team is now in third spot. The division-two girls replayed Monash Blue, winning in straight sets. The team is slowly moving up the ladder after five straight wins.

The reserves girls, with Jess Radford in the team, got off to a slow start against Monash before winning in four sets.

The girls are now second and have a big game against Latrobe Valley this week.

On the men’s side it was the division-three boys who tasted victory against Monash winning in straight sets. Will Saligari, Aidan O’connor, Alan Jorgensen-price, Will Brennan and Nathan Murphy all played key roles in the win.

For the premier, reserves and division-two men, Monash proved too strong in each game, but all three teams showed they can mix it with their higher ranked opponents and will take plenty from their losses.

With all three teams still in their respective top fours, they know where they stand in relation to the rest of the competition and with players returning this week, each team will be strengthened for matches against Vic Uni at the State Volleyball Centre.
