Mininera football back to business

- BY JONATHAN BOX

Mininera and District Football League’s home-andaway season is set to resume after a round of interleague action where Mininera went down by 31 points against South West District league.

Michael Lockyer won the top performer medal for Mininera and District. Lockyer and Tatyoon coach Adrian Pilgrim also kicked two goals each to be the multiple goal-scorers for the team.

This week, Moyston-willaura hosts Tatyoon at Willaura.

The home-town Pumas have had a great start to the season being 4-0 and on top of the ladder. However, this week will be a major test when they take on the Hawks.

Tatyoon is coming off a loss to Lismore-derrinallum where Mitchell Cronin, Shaun Orr and Sean Mcdougall tried their best and had their team on top at half time. However a four-goal-to-one second half saw the Demons run away with the contest.

Lismore-derrinallum has also had a thumping start to the season with four wins.

The Demons have faced some tough opponents but have been able come out on top each week.

With the experience of Michael Lockyer and Gary Knights, combined with local youth in Jed Millard, the team is going to be hard to beat.

This week SMW Rovers front up to a challenge against Lismore-derrinallum, coming off a 23-point victory over Penshurst.

The Bulldogs led right from the start and their accuracy in front of goals put them in a good position despite Penshurst having more scoring shots.

Rovers will look forward to the challenge with players such as James Costigan, Tim Langdon, Tim Cleeland and John Forbes all in good form.

Sitting in the top five for the first time in a long time, Woorndoomortlake must be feeling positive after the first four rounds – especially after last round when it took the big scalp of Hawkesdalemacarthur.

This week the Tigers take on Penshurst. With a good mix of new inclusions combined with their 2016 list, the Tigers appear to have found a formula that is working for them.

In other games, Caramut hosts Wickliffe-lake Bolac, Great Western takes on Glenthompson-dunkeld and Ararat Eagles travel to Macarthur in the battle of the eagles with Hawkesdale-macarthur.
