Plenty of options to explore
While many students plan tertiary study after finishing secondary school, others have different ideas.
The Western Victorian Careers Expo is the perfect place for students to look for alternative options.
The expo is more than about providing tertiary information. There is also a wide array of exhibitors offering other career options.
Careers expo project officer Annie Mintern said there were many exhibitors who would offer career paths such as school-based apprenticeships and hands-on training, as well as exhibitors who were simply looking for employees.
“This year’s expo aims to provide students and the public with as many career options as possible,” she said.
“We are not only providing information about tertiary education, but giving people the opportunity to find out about many different career pathways that are available.”
Ms Mintern said the expo had attracted an overwhelming response from exhibitors this year and the event committee was expecting it to be the biggest yet.
“We have received exhibitor registrations from so many different industries this year that there really is something for everyone,” she said.
“I would encourage visitors to the expo who might not be interested in further training or study to bring along a resume, because there is certainly an opportunity to obtain employment or gain an apprenticeship from a visit to the expo.”
Ms Mintern said organisers were also encouraging adult jobseekers and parents to attend.
Expo chairman Andrew Vague said a careers expo website had been updated and anyone wanting to research before attending the event could visit www.wimmeracareerexpo.com.
“The current 2017 exhibitor listings are now available on our website with links to their websites,” he said.
“We have also listed our exhibitors by industry this year in order to make it easier for people who know what they want to do to find what they are looking for.”
The Western Victorian Careers Expo is on June 27 from 9.30am to 2pm at Wimmera Events Centre, Longerenong.
It is open to the public and entry is free of charge.
