St Brigid’s College promotes healthy lifestyle

-

Horsham’s St Brigid’s College fully embraces the Education Week theme of ‘healthy minds and healthy bodies’.

The college, an iconic educational institution in the Wimmera, has a variety of programs and projects to promote overall student health and wellbeing.

One project is a breakfast club the school runs with its Student Representative Council.

The concept is designed to ensure everyone starts their day of learning in the best way possible.

It is more than a simple whim – it’s based on nutritional guidelines that suggest having breakfast helps stabilise blood-sugar levels, improves memory and concentration, energy levels and metabolism.

St Brigid’s College has a Monday Munchies program which is a successful partnership between the college and a Horsham Connected program, with support from The Salvation Army and Wimmera Uniting Care.

In its fifth year, the program involves VCAL students from Horsham Connected working with St Brigid’s VCAL students to plan and prepare healthy lunches for disadvantaged people.

The school, while strongly promoting academic achievement and social inclusiveness, also has an extensive sporting program that builds on the healthy minds, healthy bodies concept.
