Laharum bucks the trend
Laharum Primary School, a small rural school with 31 students, is challenging rural school trends by achieving steady enrolments each year.
Laharum Primary is a ‘school with a view’, near the picturesque Grampians. It is a ‘school with a view’ to educating and supporting all students in achieving their full potential and growth into confident and empathetic children.
The second school term has been busy at Laharum with year six students leading an Anzac service at the school.
Years three to six students attended a school camp at Warrnambool, visiting Flag Staff Hill Maritime Museum and learning about the Shipwreck Coast.
Students have also been preparing for a grandparents day.
Grandparents and special family members received invitations to attend a morning of student presentations and class activities followed by a morning tea.
Parent and grandparent involvement is strong in the school, as is the partnerships between the school and the district community.
Grandparents day is a way of celebrating the partnerships and saying thankyou for everyone’s involvement in the ‘proud little school’.
School council president Katrina Knight said the school staff had a very inclusive nature.
“This fosters great partnerships between parents and the school,” she said.
Acting principal Grant Fiedler started at Laharum Primary School at the beginning of term two.
“In my short time at the school I have been impressed by the children’s engagement with their learning and the children’s respectful behaviour,” he said.
The school welcomes new enrolments. Parents-carers interested in considering Laharum Primary School for their child in any year level can call Mr Fiedler on 5383 6202 or email laharum.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au.
