Art fair supports Wimmera Cancer Centre

-

Proceeds from the 40th Wimmera art fair will go towards an oncology chair for the Wimmera Cancer Centre project.

The chair is valued at $8000 and the art fair committee has started selling raffle tickets to help reach the target.

Winners of the ‘Most Popular Bay’ at the 2015 Rotary Art Fair Meagan Lonsdale and Kerry Bolwell have donated first prize.

Their original artworks, ‘Apples’ and ‘Perched’ were inspired by rainbow lorikeets and are valued at $560.

Based on a tiny farm in the west Wimmera, Lonsdale is a mostly selftaught artist working in a range of two-dimensional media when not busy raising sheep or geckos.

She draws much of her subject matter and inspiration from the natural world; flora, fauna and landscapes with a focus on farm life and the wildlife of western Victoria.

Lonsdale loves fine detail, and strives to employ this in many of her works using photographs, sketches and live subjects as references.

Born and raised in Horsham, Bolwell developed a love for drawing and painting at a young age.

Encouraged by her family through her many creative endeavours, she pursued a formal education in graphic design, animation and special effects.

Bolwell experiments with different mediums and styles, but considers herself, primarily, a pointillism artist.

She creates the bulk of her art pieces by patiently drawing or painting hundreds, sometimes thousands of tiny dots on paper to create a larger detailed piece.

Other prizes in this year’s Rotary East Art Fair raffle include a voucher donated by Horsham Lanes and Games and a sterling silver and cubic zirconia dress ring donated by Macchia Jewellery.
