It’s show time... almost

-

The countdown is on for Horsham College staff and students involved in the school’s latest production, Legally Blonde Junior.

Director Emily Friedrichsen said cast and crew would ramp up preparations in term three following a break over the school holidays.

She said a full-day rehearsal before the break was a great success.

“We’d only been rehearsing for six weeks, so to get through it so well was amazing,” she said.

“We usually start rehearsing for shows in term one, but we started rehearsals in May for Legally Blonde because so many staff and students were involved in Horsham Arts Council’s production of Annie.

“The students have had five months to learn their lines and they knew they needed to come in 100 percent prepared to block straight away.”

Ms Friedrichsen said the students did not disappoint.

She said she was particularly pleased with the efforts of firsttime performers, including senior students Remy Cross and Dawson Cross.

“They are already off-book and are doing a great job,” she said.

“We also have some talented year sevens in their first show this year, who are learning from the older kids. The older ones have been great with them. They’ve been very supportive and it’s wonderful to see those relationships build.”

Horsham College will present Legally Blonde Junior at Horsham Town Hall from September 14 to 17.

“The show touches on a lot of stereotypes, including appearances and labelling in this generation,” Ms Friedrichsen said.

“Because Elle is blonde and beautiful, a lot of people think she doesn’t have a brain. So she proves them wrong.

“It is the junior version, but it does deal with issues such as sexuality, so parental guidance is recommended.

“The show has a great message – it doesn’t matter what you are or how you identify yourself, it’s what’s inside your heart that counts.”
