A day of adventure, pampering
Woodbine’s adventure and discovery program members enjoyed a day of pampering in Horsham during a visit to D’coco Hair Studio.
The Warracknabeal-based disability agency hosts the program each Tuesday, providing participants with adventures and opportunities to try different community-based activities.
Co-ordinator Jill King said the six people who visited the hair studio had a wonderful time.
“One of the participants commented that she had never felt so beautiful,” she said.
Mrs King said Woodbine had delivered its adventure and discovery program for three years.
“It’s very popular. The only strict rule is that the program must not be based at a Woodbine location,” she said.
“Some of the activities undertaken include flying over Warracknabeal, assisting in a shearing shed and helping prepare the shearers lunches, helping out at local kindergartens and participating in the Art is… festival.”
Mrs King said participants were also fortunate enough to run a workshop at the annual ‘Having A Say’ conference, an event that aims to empower people with disabilities.
“Earlier this year, the Woodbine adventure and discovery group travelled to Tasmania and explored the state,” she said.
“It was an amazing opportunity for those who attended.
“We have more adventures and experiences planned – you never know where the adventure and discovery program will pop up.”
