White re-elected Waves president

Kelvin White will continue as Western Waves Cricket Region president.

Members elected him and other officials at a meeting and presentati­on day in Hamilton.

Other officials are vice-president, Chris Leith; secretary, Lloyd Ilett; treasurer, David Webb; board members, Grant Myers, Bill Somers, Jeshua Ross; umpires representa­tive, John Donegan; women’s cricket representa­tive, Grace Lee; Victorian Country Cricket League board representa­tive, Lloyd Illett; VCCL selector, Glen Kelson.

Highlights of the day included the inaugural presentati­on of two pathway awards named in honour of players who represente­d the region at state championsh­ip level before continuing their contributi­on as managers and coaches.

The Shae Johnson Female Pathway Player of the Year award, a memorial to Shae Johnson who died in 2016, went to Alyssa Humphries from Casterton who produced strong championsh­ip performanc­es at under-16 level. Other female age-group winners were Anna Habel, Minyip, under-18s, and Jessica Field, Dunkeld, under-14s.

The Tim Ludeman Male Pathway Player of the Year award acknowledg­ed the region’s most eminent player. The award went to Russell’s Creek, Warrnamboo­l under-16 player Dom Bandara.

Officials also presented a Western Waves team of the year featuring Wimmera players Simon Hopper, Homers, Lachie Watts, Blackheath­dimboola, Matthew Combe, Horsham Saints and Patrick Gregory, St Arnaud. A Malcolm Roberts award for services to regional cricket went to Norm Gibson of Grassmere associatio­n.

Mr White also announced a life-membership for Gordon Mcleod of Warrnamboo­l.
