‘Dipper’ guest at blokes night

-

Football legend Robert ‘Dipper’ Dipierdomenico will line up his renowned moustache against the facial hair of some of Elmhurst’s finest at an Elmhurst Blokes Night on November 24.

The event is at Elmhurst Hotel where licensees Paul and Julie Harrigan, in conjunction with ‘The Elmhurst Blokes’ have organised similar events in the past two years.

The nights provide an opportunity for district men to gather together in a relaxed atmosphere where they can talk about day-to-day experiences, exchange ideas and in some circumstances ‘unload’ some of the emotional burdens of remote rural living.

Initially the gatherings were in response to periods of drought, fires or floods, drawing in ‘local blokes’ to talk about depression, men’s health issues and combating farm suicides.

Elmhurst Blokes Nights have since become semi-regular events and continue to provide an opportunity for men to get together and openly discuss issues with other ‘blokes’. The events have also progressed into a major fundraising evening for district charities and research into men’s health issues.

The next blokes night coincides with Movember, which raises money for beyondblue and men’s health programs.

Last year Elmhurst police officer Leading Senior Constable Grant Healey started a solo attempt at raising money through ‘Grow a Mo’ sponsorship, coupling this with a car-washing day supported by Elmhurst Country Fire Authority and several prominent individuals, raising more than $1100.

Limited pre-paid tickets for this year’s event are available from Elmhurst Hotel, by calling 5354 8205 or from Hansen Design and Print in Ararat.

Tickets cost $35. The cost covers a two-course dinner and entertainment.
