Pulse race at Murtoa Cup
There will be more than just horses racing at this year’s Murtoa Cup on October 7.
Wimmera sporting clubs, businesses and community groups will have an opportunity to race for a share of more than $3000 in prizes in the inaugural Great Pulse Race.
The Great Pulse Race is a fivestage elimination event designed to celebrate the Wimmera’s famed pulse farming.
Teams of four will compete in a sack race, toss a pulse bag, rummage through lentils, shift broad beans with a straw and play passthe-pulse to compete for cash prizes.
The best-dressed team costume will win a mini-marquee package including 10 tickets to the 2018 Murtoa Cup.
Ladbrokes have also contributed a $250 betting voucher, which will be hidden in the lentil rummage.
The event has the support of the State Government’s Raceday Attraction Program.
Murtoa-marma Racing Club president David Delahunty said the Great Pulse Race ticked a number of boxes for the club.
“A day at the Murtoa races is always fantastic fun,” he said.
“The race day will once again coincide with Murtoa’s Big Weekend, and with hospitality sales doing well, this year is set to be bigger and better than the last.
“The Great Pulse Race allows the club to give back to other local groups and businesses.
“It also provides another reason for locals to attend our race day and highlights farming and agriculture in the Wimmera.”
Another race feature on cup day will include the first leg of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Series, with the famous trophy to be on display on course.
