Cricket board scales back
Horsham Cricket Association has voted in favour to change its constitution to reduce the number of its board members from 10 to five.
Officials unanimously approved the move at a special meeting last week.
Association president Tim Hopper said the move was in response to discussions at an annual meeting in July.
He said several clubs expressed the view that a reduction of the number of board members to five would be positive considering the association had been operating with three board vacancies.
“It’s no secret that sporting clubs are finding it difficult to find volunteers and cricket is not immune from this,” he said.
“We have tireless volunteers working at the grassroots level – that is the clubs.
“It is always a little tougher to get people with the time to be involved at an association level.”
The change will become effective on October 11 when board positions will spill and members elect a new board.
Mr Hopper said now was the time for cricket lovers interested in helping to grow the game to nominate for a position.
“Ideally we will have at least two people nominate for each board-member role,” he said.
“The clubs will then be able to have a clear say about who they think should be on the board.
“There might be a little concern about this change on the eve of the season, but the fixtures have been set and the season will start as scheduled.
“I am confident it will be seamless.”
Positions on the new Horsham Cricket Association board will be president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and ordinary board member.
Nominations close at 5pm on October 11 and people must lodge them with association secretary Darren Chesterfield.
