Numbers up at cup

-

Horsham and District Racing Club has celebrated another successful cup meeting, with racegoers flocking to the track on Friday.

Manager Lisa Inkster said patronage was up on last year’s event, with about 200 extra racegoers supporting the club’s premier annual meeting.

“It was great to see so many people enjoying a day out and making the most of the public holiday in Horsham municipality,” she said.

“Hopefully next year the local schools will also observe the Horsham Cup holiday.

“We always have plenty of activities and attractions for children.

“They had a blast this year so hopefully even more kids will be able to take advantage of the change from the Melbourne Cup public holiday next year.”

Mrs Inkster said patrons got into the spirit of the day, donning their race-day finest.

“The fashions on the field competition was once again well supported by businesses and the community,” she said.

“We had plenty of people get up and strut their stuff on the catwalk for a chance to win a prize and showcase their style.”

Horsham’s Melanie Wade was the big winner, claiming the lady of the day title ahead of Brydie Scollary.

Nathan Koenig won the men’s category and Mia Lowe the junior girls competition, with Suzanne Cowen-bodey and Laurie Bodie named couple of the day.

Patrons were treated to an eightrace card, with the Matthew Williams-trained Our Bottino triumphing in the feature race, the $50,000 Millers Horsham Cup.
