Kealy continues road campaign

Member for Lowan Emma Kealy believes community lobbying is responsible for the latest maintenance work on Western and Wimmera highways.

She said she was pleased to see work finally underway ‘after years of lobbying by the local community’.

Ms Kealy commented in State Parliament last week about how the works came on the back of hundreds of community calls to Vicroads in support of her ‘Report a Road Hazard’ campaign.

“These locals are rightly concerned about the deteriorating condition of roads in our part of the state, which is putting lives at risk,” she said.

“The Andrews government received a massive cash windfall due to the sale of the Port of Melbourne and has introduced 11 new taxes, so quality repairs to our country roads should be a priority.

“Instead they have cut hundreds of millions of dollars out of country roads funding, scrapping The Nationals Country Roads and Bridges program.

“We have been forced to run a significant community campaign to get our roads fixed. I thank the community for getting behind my ‘Report a Road Hazard’ campaign, but we need to keep up the fight for our fair share of roads funding.”

“We need to keep giving Vicroads the data it needs to demonstrate Labor’s funding cuts are devastating our roads,” she said. “The best way to keep our roads safe is to keep them in a safe condition.”
