Tight tussles in Stawell tennis

-

Stawell’s Friday night tennis competition produced two tight tussles.

In blustery conditions, the top two sides hit the courts, with Frewstal gaining the advantage over Stawell Toyota after the tea break, winning four of the next six sets.

It was three sets apiece in the final six matches, so Frewstal’s lead remained the difference in the end as it held a seven-game margin and clearly took top position on the ladder.

Madi Freeland, Pat Hall and Tarnee Orr dominated the courts to ensure Frewstal’s victory, while Stawell Toyota’s Declan Pyke and Jonah O’shannessy were their team’s best contributors.

The night’s other contest was even closer as Farrers Tyrepower scraped home by three games over David O Jones Mitre 10.

Farrers Tyrepower won the first three of the last six sets and looked to be home, but Mitre 10 rallied to win the final three sets to just miss out.

Farrers Tyrepower captains Joel Freeland and Amy Hodgetts stepped up when they were needed, combining in the mixed section to score an 8-1 victory.

Mitre 10’s Richard Dodds and Seth Blake never gave in for their side as they had undefeated rounds.

This week will see first-placed Frewstal play fourth-placed David O Jones Mitre 10 and second-placed Stawell Toyota plays third-placed Farrers Tyrepower.
