Spotlight on region

-

A new ‘commissioner’s dinner’ will shine a spotlight on the future of policing in the Wimmera while championing regional food and produce.

Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Horsham branch will host a black-tie dinner in the city’s town hall on February 10.

Horsham branch president Geoff Lord said committee members were excited to introduce a new event to raise money for vital work at Wimmera Health Care Group.

“Since 2007 we’ve raised more than $200,000 for the health service through the help of the community,” he said.

Mr Lord said money raised from the commissioner’s dinner would go to the hospital’s emergency department and the new Wimmera Cancer Centre.

“We created this event because we thought it was a good opportunity to reach a broader audience than some of our other events,” he said.

“It will also allow us to highlight our local produce and musical talent.” The event will feature a five-course meal with matched regional wines.

Horsham singer Emilee Pritchard and pianist Ethan Mcrae will provide entertainment.

Mr Lord said a highlight of the evening would be an address by Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Tess Walsh.

“We’re excited to have the Assistant Commissioner come and speak about the future of policing in the region,” he said.

“We will also have other senior police members from around the region in attendance.”

The night will include an auction, with a New Zealand holiday, a Grampians Grape Escape package and a Grampians Horse Riding Centre experience among big-ticket items.

The event starts with welcome drinks at 6.30pm, with dinner from 7pm.

Tickets cost $150 and are available online at www.horsham townhall.com.au or at the town hall box office.
