New rooms at Dudley Cornell

-

Female users of Horsham’s Dudley Cornell Park are set to benefit from new change rooms.

Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford has announced a $100,000 grant for the sporting centre through the latest round of the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Horsham Rural City Council applied for the funding and will oversee the project.

Ms Pulford said upgrades would include two new change rooms and associated amenities.

“We’re working hard to give more people in Horsham the opportunity to play the sports they love and embrace a more active and healthy lifestyle,” she said. “This boost will go a long way towards helping cater for the growing number of women keen to get involved in sport in Horsham.”

Ms Pulford said the government had invested $120-million in its Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, which helped clubs rejuvenate tired grounds and ageing clubrooms.

She said this included $14-million to build female-friendly facilities at recreation facilities across the state.

Ms Pulford said the government was working hard to improve gender equality in sport.

“We are working with councils, local clubs and peak organisations to actively promote inclusive cultures, policies and initiatives that promote female participation on and off the field,” she said.

“This is on top of other funds that are upgrading grassroots playing and training facilities to keep up with growing participation rates including grants for aquatic centres, minor facilities works and planning grants.”
