New courses at Stawell Neighbourhood House
Wimmera people looking to return to study, improve reading, writing and maths skills or learn something new can participate in a range of classes in Stawell.
Stawell Neighbourhood House is a member of the Learn Local network, which features more than 300 organisations offering adult community education and training across Victoria.
Stawell Neighbourhood House has launched its semester one brochure for 2018.
Co-ordinator Jenny Greenberger said now was a great time to put new year’s resolutions into action by learning something new.
“Learn Local classes include Computers for the Terrified, for real beginners, and Basics and Beyond, for those who want to hone up their skills using software commonly used in most workplaces,” she said.
“For people wanting to improve their prospects of gaining employment, ‘Job Ready in Stawell’ is a registered Learn Local course run over two full days, for three weeks.
“It covers information about the local employment scene, as well as the skills, attitudes and attributes we need to develop, in order to achieve success in the job market.”
Mrs Greenberger said Improve your Reading, Writing and Number Skills was run twice a week.
The Wednesday evening class is specifically for people for whom English is not their first language. There is also a daytime class for English speakers looking to improve their literacy and numeracy skills.
Sewing for Business classes on Monday afternoons are for people who would like to learn to sew to produce items to donate to charity, or to sell at markets or online.
“Learn Local courses are only a small component of what the neighbourhood house has to offer,” Mrs Greenberger said.
“There are heaps of other arts and crafts, lifestyle and children’s activities available as well. Make sure you get your semester one brochure to check them all out.”
Brochures are available at Stawell Neighbourhood House, in the Powerhouse building in Sloane Street and online at www.snhlc.weebly.com or on the Stawell Neighbourhood House Facebook page.
Enrolments for all classes are necessary as they will only go ahead if there are sufficient numbers.
