Sculpture masterclass

Wimmera residents can learn sculpture techniques from Canberra-based Scottish artist Lucy Irvine during a masterclass in Horsham on Sunday.

Irvine will use everyday materials such as cardboard, newspaper and masking tape to create a woven skin.

She will experiment with forms that shift, make connections with their surroundings and activate space.

Horsham Regional Art Gallery director Adam Harding said he was excited to welcome Irvine to the region.

“Lucy is one of the artists from our Enmeshed exhibition, which features woven artworks from Ararat Regional Art Gallery’s collection,” he said.

“Community members will have a chance to do a handson masterclass with Lucy on Sunday and explore her sculptural techniques.

“Otherwise, people can just come and share afternoon tea with Lucy and hear about her amazing sculptural works that are invading public spaces around Australia.”

The masterclass will run from 1pm to 2.30pm in the Handbury Education Centre, with a ‘meet the artist’ session in the gallery from 3pm to 4.30pm.

The masterclass costs $45, including materials, and is limited to 12 adults.
