Dunn speaker at mobility meeting

-

Tom Dunn will be guest speaker at Wimmera Mobility Group’s first meeting of the year, at Horsham RSL Club on Tuesday.

Mr Dunn captured media attention during a Murray River paddle-boarding adventure to raise money for the hearing-impaired.

The mobility group, which has grown since inception in 2010 to have close to 30 paidup members, meets from 10am on the fourth Tuesday of every month.

Group chairman Geoff Baker said he was amazed how time had flown. “Our meetings are in the RSL’S main meeting room. Memberships are only $10 with a gold coin donation at meetings,” he said.

Mr Baker said the meetings were about people getting involved to make the most of information available, through guest speakers and activities the group promoted.

“For example, we have social barbecues and trips twice a year as well as an end-of-year Christmas lunch at the RSL,” he said.

Mr Baker said the group’s aim was to try to get more people involved, regardless of their disability.

He said the ultimate aim was to provide advocacy services.

“Our members who use mobility scooters are very much aware of central business district and outlying area issues,” he said.

Mr Baker said the general public should also be aware of people in mobility scooters.

“To anyone backing out or driving out of your driveway please, please sound your car horn,” he said.
