Tennis domination continues in Stawell

-

Round three of Stawell Tennis Club’s Friday night competition saw Crowe Horvath continue to assert its dominance, while Farrers Tyrepower’s ascent up the ladder gained momentum as result of a narrow victory.

Another comfortable win was assured early for Crowe Horvath against Frewstal, when it flew out of the blocks, winning eight of the first 11 matches to take an almost unassailable lead prior to the tea break. Things did not improve for Frewstal, eventually going down by 36 games.

Crowe Horvath comprised a host of players who did not drop a set for the evening, including Phil Hutton, Sam Carter, Jonah O’shannessy, Zayne Hall and Dakota Cosson.

O’shannessy, living up to his billing as a player on the rise, conceded just four games all night.

Jade Cross and Brae Scantleton battled hard for Frewstal but lacked support from their teammates, with the final scoreline reading Crowe Horvath 18-174 to Frewstal 9-138.

Farrers Tyrepower and David O Jones Mitre 10 fought out a thrilling encounter, with Tyrepower coming from behind to win the last five sets and reign triumphant by a mere eight games.

The powerful Amy Hodgetts was on song winning all three sets and was well supported by Jesse Barber, who won all his matches convincingly, and Brian O’shannessy, who used exquisite timing to never give sub Rod Reading a chance.

O’shannessy, Declan Pyke and Josh Cox all put their best foot forward but it was not quite enough for Mitre 10, going down 13-159 to Tyrepower 14-167.

Round four features a battle between the two top teams, Crowe Horvath and Tyrepower, while Mitre 10 will look for its first victory when it goes head to head with Frewstal. Ladder: Crowe Horvath, 63 points, Farrers Tyrepower, 49, Frewstal, 43, David O Jones Mitre 10, 31.
