Grampians squad set for clash

Nine Grampians Cricket Associatio­n clubs are represente­d in a 13-man squad to compete against former Australian cricket stars including Doug Bollinger, Andy Bichel and Julia Price.

The Grampians squad will compete against an Australian Cricket Associatio­n Masters team at Ararat’s Alexandra Oval on Friday at 5.15pm.

The teams will contest a Twenty20 match as part of the masters program, developed by the ACA, the official representa­tive body of past and present players.

Tatyoon’s Jarrod Blandford will captain the Grampians outfit, while Bollinger is the latest star named in the masters line-up.

The retired fast bowler boasts more than 400 games of internatio­nal and domestic experience.

Talented youngsters Kayla Stuchbree, 17, Ryan Nellthorp, 16, Aaron Byron, 16, and Reece Kettle, 15, will vie for an ACA Masters Scholarshi­p.

The scholarshi­p recipient will collect a $1000 bursary following the Twenty20 match on Friday.

The winner will also have an opportunit­y to be mentored by a masters player.

Festivitie­s will kick off with a sportsman’s night tomorrow evening. The event will be at Alexandra Oval Community Centre from 7pm.
