Horsham plans for squash return
Horsham will host another Victorian Masters Squash Association tournament next year after a successful weekend of competition.
More than 100 players and squash followers from as far as Western Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and eastern Victoria challenged themselves against the state’s best players aged over 30 during a competition in Horsham.
Horsham Squash Club was also well represented. Other Wimmera-mallee players travelled from Hopetoun and Donald.
Horsham president Chris Warrick said his club won praise for the standard of facilities provided and the quality in which the courts were presented.
“We had heaps of players telling various club members how much they loved the courts and Horsham,” he said.
“It was good to hear it, especially from the Tasmanians who made a huge effort to get here.
“Many visited our wineries and cafes and we sold 200 steak florentines across the weekend, so they were treated to plenty of local flavours.”
Mr Warrick said court renovations and volunteer work had impressed.
“The new viewing stands on our back courts were almost full every day and we had television screens upstairs broadcasting games live from the back courts, which was also popular,” he said.
“There was just a buzz around the place all weekend.”
Victorian Masters Squash Association president Lou Morsch announced during tournament presentations that Horsham would host another event next year.
“We will most likely return again next February,” he said.
“We will probably look at making it a singles event next year, rather than teams. That way we are likely to attract the very top echelon of players who are more interested in individual honours.”
