Horsham’s Bevan Brooke will compete in the 2018 Tenpin Bowling Australia Junior Masters event after tasting success at state level.

Bevan, 15, won the male Victorian Junior Masters title at the state tenpin bowling championship in Melbourne at the weekend.

The Murtoa College student contested 12 games on Saturday and won a five-game final on Sunday.

The victory saw Bevan qualify for a place in the Australian Junior Masters in April.

Bevan’s mother Kendrell Brooke said he was excited and proud to win the title.

“It was a very tough pattern they had to bowl on,” she said.

“His father Doug and I were both there – we were very nervous in the last game, I almost couldn’t watch. “We are very proud of him.” Mrs Brooke said Bevan started bowling at the end of 2013.

“He had a bit of a break for a year when Horsham Lanes and Games burnt down in 2014, but other than that he’s been really passionate about it,” she said.

“He loves bowling and wants to go as far as he can go.”

The Australian junior masters event is part of Tenpin Bowling Australia’s Junior National Championship.

Hundreds of teenage and junior bowlers from across Australia will compete in the championship at AMF Frankston from April 18 to 28. Bevan has qualified for the Victorian team, which will also contest the President’s Junior Interstate Shield.

Fellow Horsham teens Shania Milsome, Sophie Martin and Justin Mccallum are also part of the Victorian team to contest the state championships and shield.
