Fish and chips at Willaura

-

Volunteers involved in traditional Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal event at Willaura are hoping for yet another successful family fun day.

The appeal’s Willaura branch has supported the money-raising program for more than 30 years and its ‘Fish ‘n’ Chip Lunch’ has become the backbone of a time-honoured regional community gathering.

Morning activities at Willaura Recreation Reserve will start early for the volunteers who will set up equipment and prepare for a busy few hours. The lunch of freshly cooked fish and chips is always a major highlight and organisers expect to serve hundreds of meals.

The event features a variety of children’s activities including a jumping castle and the arrival of Easter bunny.

This year’s gathering will include Ashlee and Dan Blight’s clydesdales from Armstrong. The horses won prizes at Royal Melbourne Show.

A spinning wheel, with goods up for grabs donated by businesses, will again be operating and organisers have thanked all involved. A firewood auction is also likely to attract keen bidding. The event committee is always looking for community help and encourages anyone ‘with an hour or so spare on the day’ to offer their services. Roles include sitting at the door collecting donations, serving meals, tidying up and generally helping.

Fish ‘n’ chip lunches will cost $20 for adults, secondary students $15, primary students $5 and children four and under are free of charge.
