School team in state championship

-

Holy Trinity Lutheran College’s Energetix team has qualified for state aerobics championship finals after performing strongly at Geelong’s Centenary Hall.

The 10-girl team, made up of students from years four, five and six, will now test themselves against the state’s best aerobics outfits, again in Geelong, on June 3.

If the team wins at Victorian championships it will progress to national titles in Queensland in August.

Energetix, coached by former aerobics champion Amanda Wik of Horsham, had to achieve a base score to qualify for the titles, which meant high levels of uncertainty as well as anxiety surrounded the attempt.

But Mrs Wik said the team performed strongly and chalked up a qualifying score of 78.8100.

“It was a tough gig but the girls did an exceptional routine. We were so proud, they just blew us all away,” she said. “All those hours of training for a two-minute routine paid off.”

Energetix has been training for several months with sessions intensifying in the past couple of weeks.
