Opportunity looming for south-west force
Amighty scalp looms for Edenhope-apsley when home-and-away Horsham District football action resumes this weekend.
The Saints, sitting fifth with a 4-2 win-loss record so far this season, take on ladder-leading Jeparit-rainbow in a tantalising clash at Apsley.
Edenhope-apsley has been on a winning roll, with victories over Laharum, Noradjuha-quantong and Swifts in its past three games, and victory over the Storm would add plenty to the camp’s self-belief.
Jeparit-rainbow, meanwhile, has a clean 5-5 slate, but some argue that the Storm is almost top of the ladder by default, having yet to play any serious premiership contender.
The Storm can quickly douse any such suggestion by making the long trip to the south-west and beating the Saints on their home patch.
It seems an eternity ago but in games before last week’s break for community championships, Jeparit-rainbow proved nine goals better than Rupanyup, with Kurt Waterman, Ash Clugston and young Jacob Cocks all shining in the win.
Edenhope-apsley, meanwhile, won narrowly against Laharum with Jack Butler and Lachie Middleton leading the way.
It’s a big game with plenty up for grabs.
Another intriguing contest is set to unfold at Kalkee where the thirdplaced home team tackles fourthplaced Swifts.
The Kees are coming off a narrow win against Natimuk United and some of the Swifts players will be primed after playing in the interleague game.
In other games, Harrow-balmoral remains the premiership tip of many and has a testing clash against Laharum at Harrow, Taylors Lake confronts a Noradjuha-quantong team keen to force its way up the ladder and Rupanyup, with only one win for the season, needs a solid result against struggling but willing Pimpinio.
