Bringing books to life
Horsham’s Ss Michael and John’s Primary School joined thousands of other locations to participate in National Simultaneous Storytime.
Australian Library and Information Association promotes the value of reading and literacy annually through its storytime event.
This year, more than one million participants at 8255 different locations across Australia joined in.
Ss Michael and John’s Primary School librarian Linda Mccall said students enjoyed the event.
“Our school 2010,” she said.
“We have a student read the selected book over the PA system and the book is displayed throughout the learning spaces on smart boards,” she said.
“For the past two years we have had staff narrate has been participating since and act out the selected book. The students really enjoy this.
“It’s a lot of fun and the students love seeing their teachers get a bit silly.”
The selected book must be written and illustrated by Australians. This year, Tony Wilson’s ‘Hickory Dickory Dash’ illustrated by Laura Wood was chosen.
The book is read simultaneously across various locations including schools, pre-schools, kindergartens, libraries and homes.
“We will continue participating as the students love it, and it works well with our other programs,” Ms Mccall said.
Ss Michael and John’s Primary School will participate in ‘Write a book in a day’ later this month.
