Saints favourites

- BY SARAH SCULLY

Edenhope-apsley will look to jump to third spot on the Horsham District A Grade ladder when it takes on lower-ranked Pimpinio on Saturday.

The Saints are sitting fourth but are on equal points with Swifts, which will come up against undefeated ladder-leader Natimuk United in round eight.

Edenhope-apsley has enjoyed five wins from seven matches and will start clear favourite against a struggling Pimpinio, which has one win to its name so far this season.

The Saints enjoyed a stellar start against Jeparit-rainbow last week, limiting the Storm to two goals in the opening term.

The Storm was the more dominant outfit in the second half but the damage was already done and the Saints ran away with a 19-goal win.

Defender Alex Lang continued her strong season while midcourter Ash Ryan impressed.

Ebony Spokes battled hard for the Storm at both ends of the court, while Bridget Mckenzie earned accolades for her efforts in goal defence.

The Saints will turn their attention to the Tigers, while Jeparit-rainbow will front up against Harrow-balmoral.

The Southern Roos will be out to bounce back from a 12-goal loss to undefeated Laharum.

Two goals separated the sides at half time but the Demons got the better of their opponents in the second half.

Laharum defender Ema Iredell restricted young Roos goal attack Olivia Muldoon to five goals and the side made use of fresh legs in the midcourt in the later stages of the match.

The Southern Roos will be starting to gain some consistency with defender Ebonie Salter back in the line-up and experience playing against strong, physical sides will benefit the Roos’ younger, more inexperienced team-mates ahead of finals.

Harrow-balmoral will easily overpower Jeparit-rainbow, while the Lakers are in for a tough day against Laharum.

Taylors Lake’s goalies were accurate against Noradjuha-quantong last week but the Demons will limit their opportunities.

The Lakers were competitive against the Bombers, with shooter Danielle Johnson and defender Tia-ana Parker winning praise for their efforts.

The Bombers led all the way to a much-needed 28-goal win following a couple of tough weeks.

Defender Brooke Pay was again a standout, while Georgia Francis controlled the attack end.

The Bombers need another win on the board to remain in the top six, but will struggle against Kalkee on Saturday.

Noradjuha-quantong will be without several players due to injury or unavailability when they run into the red hot Kees. Both boast quick midcourts and the Bombers defenders will need to limit feeds into Kalkee’s accurate shooters.

Kees dominate

Fifth-placed Kalkee dominated its match against third-placed Swifts, with 89 shots on goal.

Jenna Bywaters shot 26 of her side’s 64 goals in a best-on-court performance, while defender Coco Ledgar repelled many Swifts’ attempts at goals.

Julia Coates was a shining light for the Baggies in their 20-goal loss, while Michaela Armer slotted 31 goals.

Swifts now face another challenge Natimuk United, fresh from a bye.

Rupanyup has a bye this week after chalking up a win against Pimpinio.

The match was a close one with the lead see-sawing early before the Panthers pulled ahead in the second half to win by five goals.

Alex Downes once again played a pivotal role in centre, while Blair Burke was on song with 41 goals. The Tigers were best served by wing attack Kelsey Hamilton and coach Marnie Lehmann, who shot 24 goals. Round-seven results: Laharum d Harrowbalmoral 46-34, Noradjuha-quantong d Taylors Lake 59-31, Kalkee d Swifts 64-44, Edenhopeapsley d Jeparit-rainbow 55-36, Rupanyup d Pimpinio 59-54. against
