College students set to ‘bring it on’
Ararat College students are busy with final preparations for their ‘mish-mash’ musical production starting tomorrow night.
The students will present Another High School Musical: Bring it On at Ararat Town Hall tomorrow and Friday night.
The production will be the first in the renovated hall.
The play brings elements of popular movies such as Footloose, Glee and Hellcats into one original production.
Director Janine Poole said she could not wait for parents to see their children on stage.
“So many of them just shine,” she said.
“The students have worked hard to bring their characters to life and to entertain. We have a cast of amazing singers and actors who will impress with their skills and choreography.
“This will be a funny, impressive, toe-tapping show for all.”
The plot involves ‘Rufus’, who has transferred from Australia into Sweet Valley High, and on his first day meets ‘Vanessa’ who is also new to the school.
Together they try to fit in with some of the groups on campus – the cheerleaders, the basketballers, the dramatics or the mathletes.
They are used to diversity, so there is uproar when they both try to fit into more than one group. The primary characters have to find a way to stay true to themselves while being accepted by other students.
Ms Poole thanked the many people who had helped with the production, including former student Danica Poole who edited the script and students including Georgia Jenkins, Lauren Bowles, Evee Cosgriff and Jack Ward. “They have helped with choreography, encouraging younger and shyer students, coming up with suggestions and being fantastic, fun and supportive throughout the gruelling rehearsal process,” she said.
“I have been extremely impressed with the younger students in years seven and eight who have shown amazing dedication to rehearsals, learning their lines and filling in for absent actors.”
Ms Poole also thanked Sophie Graham and Ella and Amy Wood who help with choreography, the school band and Sheryl Lugg for painting sets.
Jack Ward is playing the role of Rufus and Toneya Hurst is Vanessa.
Lauren Bowles, Evee Cosgriff, James Mullin, Connor Sheffield, Georgia Jenkins, Ella and Amy Wood, Sophie Graham, Amber Baulch and Case Maxwell play other lead roles.
Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
