Money for age plan
Northern Grampians Shire Council will develop a positive ageing strategy after receiving a $100,000 community grant.
It is one of just four councils across regional Victoria to receive a State Government Age-friendly Community Grant.
The money will go towards improving access to transport and services and support to help tackle social isolation and loneliness of seniors within the shire.
Northern Grampians mayor Tony Driscoll said the grant was significant considering the average age of residents in the shire.
“It will certainly help increase the quality of life for these people,” he said.
The council will develop the ageing plan in consultation with residents, which will occur both online and face-to-face.
Victorian Housing, Disability and Ageing Minister Martin Foley announced the funding.
Mr Foley said the government was proud to support Victorian communities to keep senior residents connected and engaged with services, health care and social activities.
“Older Victorians have contributed so much to our state,” he said.
“This is about giving back to them, and making sure they are supported to live happy, healthy lives and stay active in their communities as they grow older.”
