Little Mermaid hits the stage

-

St Brigid’s College students will look the part when they head ‘under the sea’ to present The Little Mermaid in Horsham Town Hall from tomorrow night.

Costume co-ordinator Catherine Hobbs said she enlisted talented Susie Mibus and Venetia Elbourne-hobbs to create several costumes for the lead characters.

“Ms Mibus’s extraordinary talents have been showcased in Ursula’s sea witch gown. Complete with tentacles, this costume alone is a must-see,” she said.

“Parents Louise Guest and Tori Power also assisted, along with Jenny Gaulke, Anita Scott and Horsham Arts Council.”

Ms Mibus said she was pleased to be involved with something she loved doing.

“Getting Ursula’s costume to ‘behave’ has been a challenge – it’s so big,” she said.

Mrs Elbourne-hobbs became involved when two of her children, Saxon and Liberty, were cast as Ursula’s minions, Flotsam and Jetsam.

She said she was determined to be thrifty and creative when creating the two costumes.

“Using fabrics donated by Karen Booker, along with things found from local charity shops has allowed us to keep costs down,” she said.

Ms Mibus said recycling and up-cycling had created a buzz and the costume team had repurposed everything from yoga mats to suitcases.

“It’s been great to reinvent and remodel fabric and materials to create something it wasn’t originally intended for,” Ms Mibus said.

The Little Mermaid will run for three nights from tomorrow to Saturday at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available online at www.horshamtownhall. com.au or at the town hall box office.
