Hub set to have lasting legacy

Member for Mallee Andrew Broad believes a new Kalkee Road children’s hub in Horsham will have far-reaching benefits for children, families and staff members.

Mr Broad outlined his thoughts at an official opening of the Horsham North centre, already providing a range of education, health and support services to children and their families under the one roof.

“There’s a range of great services operating out of the new building including an immunisation clinic, a parents playgroup, a toy library, an emergency childcare centre, a playground and kindergarten classes,” he said.

“It is so helpful for parents to have all of these great services in the one location.”

Regional Development, Territories and Local Government Minister John Mcveigh said the hub was a crucial piece of infrastructure that had been a long time in the making.

“Giving every child the best start in life is a natural decision for any parent and our investment in this centre is about ensuring every child gets access to quality learning and health care,” he said.

Horsham mayor Pam Clarke added the project had been close to her heart for the past 10 years.

“We have worked closely with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to integrate some significant elements that celebrate their important cultural identity and to ensure that everyone in our community feels welcomed and safe in this building,” she said.

Kalkee Road Children’s and Community Hub, overseen for much of its development by council director Angela Murphy, is the result of joint funding arrangements between the Federal Government, $900,000, State Government, $2.6-million and Horsham Rural City Council, $810,926. important
