costumes worn by iconic Australian performer Kylie Minogue is generating considerable interest at a redeveloped Ararat gallery.
Victorian Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford and Federal Member for Wannon Dan Tehan, speaking at an official launch of Ararat Arts Precinct, spoke glowingly of the exhibition.
Both said they had taken the opportunity during official duties in Ararat to view the exhibition, with Ms Pulford expanding on the significance of the gallery Textile Arts Museum, TAMA.
Ararat Gallery TAMA is exhibiting Kylie on Stage, an Arts Centre Australia and Australian Music Vault tour, until October 7.
Entry to the exhibition is free of charge.
Gallery director Anthony Camm said Kylie on Stage was a major exhibition celebrating magical moments from Kylie Minogue’s highly successful concert tours.
He said the exhibition drew on Minogue’s spectacular stage wardrobe stored at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Australian Performing Arts Collection.
“The exhibition features costumes from tours dating back to 1989 as well as more recent tours such as Kylie Aphrodite les Follies in 2011,” he said.
“Featured designers within the world-first exhibition include Dolce and Gabbana, John Galliano, Julien Macdonald, Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier as well as local designers including Peter Morrissey and Mark Burnett.”
Mr Camm said Kylie on Stage also featured a selection of designs, working drawings, photographs and footage that explored the creative process behind each costume and provided rare glimpses into the world of backstage.
“Ararat gallery has been transformed through a major redevelopment supported by all tiers of government,” he said.
“We are thrilled to showcase our new and expanded spaces with the Kylie on Stage exhibition.
“Given our gallery’s strong textile focus, the opportunity to present garments designed for Ms Minogue’s stage shows by some of the world’s greatest fashion designers is a great honour.”
Australian Performing Arts Collection at Arts Centre Melbourne director Janine Barrand said her organisation was delighted the people of Ararat district and visitors were getting a chance to experience ‘and get up close and personal’ with the world of Kylie Minogue.
