Horsham’s Kinsman family will pedal the countryside for a good cause on Saturday when they participate in the 2018 Arapiles Cycling Event.

The ‘ACE ride’ raises money for the Wimmera Drug Action Taskforce and enables participants to enjoy picturesque surroundings between Horsham and Natimuk.

Mrs Kinsman said she, her husband Asher and sons Alex and Henry looked forward to a family day out.

“My elder son Alex and I did the ACE ride once a couple of years ago, while my husband, younger son and daughter did the shorter ride around Arapiles,” she said.

“Our daughter is away at the moment but the rest of us are going to participate this year. My husband and sons are all into cycling and being a local event, for a good cause, we thought it was a great opportunity.”

Mrs Kinsman said participants had an opportunity to enjoy a beautiful section of countryside. “I’d definitely recommend the ride to other people,” she said. “The year I did it there were people of all abilities with all types of bikes, so anyone can do it.

“The taskforce is a great thing to support and hopefully more people of all abilities get on board.”

Cyclists can choose a 128-kilometre circuit from Horsham or a 53-kilometre route from Natimuk.

The Horsham loop starts at Sawyer Park at 7.30am and the Natimuk circuit starts outside the shire office, NC2, in Natimuk at 9am. There will be several rest stops along the way.

The ACE ride avoids main roads and is not a race. People can enter online at www.aceride.com.au or at Horsham Cyclery.

Riders can also sign up on the day – at Horsham Angling Club rooms from 6.30am, or at the NC2 building from 8am – but will pay a higher fee.

Entry is $65 for the 128-kilometre circuit or $75 on the day, and $55 for the 53-kilometre circuit, or $65 on the day.

An optional end-of-ride meal is $15 and people should sign up by Friday for catering purposes.
