Creek to reassess NBA career

-

Horsham basketball star Mitch Creek’s NBA aspirations have been put on hold after the athletic 26-year-old was waived by the Brooklyn Nets at the weekend.

Creek signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Nets in August, giving him a chance to secure a twoway deal which would have seen him split time between Brooklyn and its G League development team, the Long Island Nets.

Creek’s contract was waived after Brooklyn allocated its two-way contracts to other players, but his NBA dream is not over.

Creek can now either sign with Long Island for the remainder of the season in the hopes of earning an NBA call-up or return to Europe, where he most recently played for s.oliver Würzburg in the German Bundesliga.

Creek can receive a bonus of up to $50,000 for signing with Long Island because of his Exhibit 10 contract.

A return to the National Basketball League’s Adelaide 36ers, where Creek started his professional career, has been ruled out.

The 36ers jeopardised Creek’s contract with the Nets by applying for compensation, and Creek said his relationship with the team had been damaged.

“There is no water under the bridge for me, as for when you burn something, it cannot be repaired to how it once was,” Creek said in a Facebook post.

“Myself nor my agents have had no communications regarding a return, either verbally or in writing.

“To the fans, I’m sorry, but I will not be returning to Adelaide to play.”
