Quast takes juniors through paces

-

Junior tennis development coach Jeremy Quast has been encouraged by a positive start to his role in the Wimmera.

Quast was appointed by Tennis Victoria as coach for the region in July and runs training sessions at schools and tennis clubs as well as helping run the junior Hot Shots program.

He said there had been demand for a full-time coach.

Quast said he was already beginning to see the impact of the new-look training program.

“I think there’s been more structure and a more holistic approach to coaching,” he said.

“It’s not just about teaching kids all the shots, but when to hit those shots and why.

“I’ve been working with one young girl on her footwork, and I saw her using the footwork we’ve worked on in a match and I thought ‘that’s fantastic’.

“Lots of clubs have been seeking a full-time coach and kids want a coach in town.”

Quast said with continued support from Tennis Victoria the Wimmera could grow into a tennis powerhouse.

“It’s only going to keep getting better,” he said.

“I can see the Wimmera becoming a really good region for tennis.

“The goal is to have a lot of really good juniors coming out of the Wimmera.”

Quast moved to Horsham from Adelaide to be closer to family, and said he was relishing the change of scenery.

“I just wish there was four of me to get to all parts of the Wimmera,” he said.
