Demolition in Stawell tennis

-

A demolition job on Frewstal by a rampant Stawell Toyota team was the highlight of round two of Stawell Tennis Club’s Friday night competition.

Stawell Toyota jumped out of the blocks, winning six of the first seven sets and never looked back.

It claimed the easiest of victories, 23 sets-203 games, to Frewstal’s 5-115.

Stawell Toyota had nine players win all three sets, with Neve O’shannessy, Molly Orr, Henry Clough and newcomer Shaun Johansen dropping just 15 games between them for the evening.

Frewstal skipper Jade Cross battled hard for her team in the loss, and might even call for a mid-week training session to get her charges up for this week’s clash.

Grampians Joinery remains the only unbeaten team after methodically dismantling Delahunty Plumbing in their top-of-the-table clash. Fittingly, it was Ben Martin who led the way, winning all of his sets comfortably.

There was considerable intrigue before this match, with Delahunty Plumbing making several line-up changes. But if this was an attempt to unsettle the top side, it was all in vain as the ladder-leader won 17-188 games to 11-140 games. Youngster Theo Browne showed why he is a player of the future, winning all his sets for Grampians Joinery.

Madi Freeland led the way for Delahunty Plumbing and had solid support from Angus Williams and Seth Blake, who continue to make a strong case for elevation up the grading list.

Grampians Joinery will now participate in another top-of-the-table clash when it faces off with Stawell Toyota in what promises to be an entertaining battle.
