Thomas joins brother Jarrod

-

From Horsham to Brisbane, the Berry brothers have proven inseparable.

Thomas Berry became the latest Wimmera footballer to join the AFL when the Brisbane Lions drafted him on Friday, joining older brother Jarrod at the club.

Recruiters prized the 18-yearold’s speed and athleticism, but some draft experts were surprised when he was taken at pick 36 in the second round given he missed several TAC Cup matches through injury this year.

Thomas, however, was simply happy to be joining his older brother.

Jarrod was clearly excited too, sharing a video on social media platform Instagram of him celebrating with Brisbane team-mates when the Lions selected Thomas.

Brisbane recruiting manager Steve Conole said the Lions believed the younger Berry would be a quality addition to their list.

“Thomas has got a lot of attributes similar to his brother,” he said.

“Fantastic work ethic, really competitive, a great team player and athletic.

“He had quite a few injuries in his draft year, so struggled with continuity.

“He can play a roles.”

The Lions announced Thomas would wear the number 13 guernsey next year – the number Jarrod has worn for the past two seasons.

Jarrod will change to number seven in 2019. variety of
