Wilson takes aim at ‘politically correct’
Veteran Australian musical comedian Kevin Bloody Wilson will return to the Wimmera for the first time in two years with a new album that takes aim at ‘politically correct’ culture.
Wilson’s new album, entitled F.U.P.C., is a stab at people he labels ‘snowflakes’.
“I think the title F.U.P.C. doesn’t take a lot of explaining,” he said.
“I’ve never been PC and I’ve never subscribed to it.
“I thought it was a crock of s--t from the first time I heard it described.”
Wilson said he believed political correctness had gotten out of control in recent years.
“It’s almost like a religion nowadays,” he said.
“I think it’s definitely worse in recent years.
“I’d never heard of it 30 years ago and now it seems to be smothering gotten everything. Now everyone is offended.
“I call them Millennial dyslexics, because they read everything the wrong way – they take comedians seriously and they treat politicians as a joke.”
Wilson’s tour will take him to Ararat Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday next week and Horsham Golf Club on Friday, May 24.
He said he was looking forward to returning to the Wimmera after last playing in the region in 2017. “I love regional Victoria,” he said. “I’m from more of an outback area than a regional area – Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.
“I used to see my favourite artists fly over my head between Adelaide and Perth every day.
“You might have somebody like Neil Diamond, my favourite artist, fly over Kalgoorlie to get to Perth and you’d think, ‘Why don’t they stop here?’ So it became part of my work ethic to make sure that I do get to regional areas.”
Wilson, who has been touring and recording music for about 25 years, said he loved his lifestyle and had no plans of slowing down, even at the age of 72.
“I love what I do; I get to travel the world with my wife, who is my best friend, and my daughter is my support act – it doesn’t get better than that,” he said.
“The only time it maybe isn’t such a great thing is when we’re in the car and I’ve got my wife and my daughter and the GPS all telling me where to go and fighting amongst themselves.”
