Students whip up 40th celebrations

Past and present Ararat North Primary School students will have the chance to own a unique memento of their education when the school releases a limited-edition cookbook next month.

As part of a 40-year anniversary event on December 13 from 4.30pm to 7.30pm, the school is launching 150 copies of The Ararat North Primary School 40 Year Anniversary Cookbook.

Principal Rick Elliss said teachers, parents and students had compiled a range of student-friendly recipes for the book, with most recipes ‘tried and tested’ by Ararat North children.

He said it would form a unique part of the celebrations and help connect families from the school’s past with families from today.

“It was put together with the hope that people who buy the cookbook to support the day will be able to make some interesting recipes at home,” Mr Elliss said.

“I’m sure that there will be something in the cookbook for everyone and something on the day for everyone too.”

A school history display, jumping castle, barbecue, face painting, cake stall and petting zoo will also be among highlights at the anniversary event.

Mr Elliss said the night was a great chance for previous students and people connected with the school to return and see how the school had developed since 1979.

“The school of course was opened as a ground-breaking design for a school, and over the years has had to be modified significantly,” he said.

“It will be interesting for some of the old scholars and members of our community to come back and see how much is still the same, but also how much has changed. And it will be great to hear some reflections from their time and their association with the school.”

People will be able to buy the cookbook at the school from December 13 for $20 a copy.
