Thousands raised for burns unit
Natimuk and District Field and Game Club and Country Fire Authority’s District 17 annual fundraising event saw 117 shooters get involved to raise money for The Alfred hospital’s burns unit.
Natimuk club life member and CFA shoot co-ordinator Dale Russell said the event raised $2000.
“That brings the total raised since the start of the event more than 20 years ago to $23,150,” he said.
“Unfortunately, we have had Wimmera members treated in the burns unit and this is our recognition for the great service they provide to us.”
The event was a 52-target shoot on Sunday.
Jock Baker won the High Gun award with 49 points on countback. Winner of the ‘members of the gun clubs’ category was Simon Porter, second was Shaun Smith and third Zakk Taylor – all on 49 points.
On 48 points, Ashley Robertson came first in non-members of gun clubs, with Wayne Hartwich second on countback and Joel Pymer in third, both with 44 points.
In the women’s category, Kelli Smith finished first on 42 points, second was Kate Light with 38 points, and third was Jenny Rissmann with 36 points.
Bart Turgoose won the junior competition with 45 points, Chase Porter came second with 41 points and in third was Mayci Porter on 39 points.
From the Pimpinio brigade, Simon Porter, Shannon Baker and Jock Baker made 142 points to win the brigade three-person teams category.
In second was Dennis Webb, Zakk Taylor and Noel Taylor of Natimuk on 140 points, and third was another Pimpinio team of Dale Bartlett, Chris Bartlett and Anthony Baker on 124 points.
Pimpinio won the brigade aggregate with 462 points, followed by Dimboola, 198 points, and Laharum, 184 points.
Forest Fire Management Victoria won the interservice teams average with 45 points, while Country Fire Authority placed second with an average of 10 points.
