FIVE POINTS BURGERS

Finally, the working bees of North Sydney have somewhere awesome to go for lunch. The burgers are fantastic and the ‘Bronx’, with its rich mediumrare patty and perfect balance of crunch and pickle, has us weak at the knees. 124 Walker St, North Sydney 2060. Mon-Fri 11.30am-5pm.

THE MANDOO

This Korean joint is the real deal, with everything – noodles, dumplings, stocks – made from scratch in-house. Try the cold kimchi soup. It’s a neon-toned, bright red broth that’s so icy cold it’s verging on slushie territory, served with long, thin, chewy noodles and spicy gochujang sauce. See review, p56. 12A The Boulevarde, Strathfield 2135. 02 9701 0949. Daily 9am-11pm.

VIC’S MEAT MARKET

They’re half-butchery, half- eatery and the best damn brisket sandwich makers in town. Meat is smoked overnight in the smoker known as ‘Kong’. It’s beyond tender, melting like butter on the tongue, and it’s only $12 a pop. 50-60 Bank St, Pyrmont 2009. 02 8570 8570. www.vicsmeat market.com.au. Smoker and Wagyu bar: daily 10am-3pm.

WATERMAN’S LOBSTER CO

Here you can get a generous serve of shelled, sweet Maine lobster meat stuffed into a lightly toasted, squishy hotdog bun and drenched in butter. Order it. 5/29-31 Orwell St, Potts Point 2011. 02 9380 2558. www.watermanslobsterco. com. Mon-Sat noon-late; Sun noon- 6pm.
