The F-Type is now “af­ford­able”, but it’s shed cylin­ders en route

You can now have an F-Type for un­der £50k, but you’ll have to make do with a 2.0-litre 4cyl. Yes, an en­gine you’ll find not un­like one in rep-spec XE sa­loons now pow­ers Jag’s coupe and road­ster. Thought the F-Type ri­valled the 911? Well now it’s go­ing for the newly 4cyl Boxster and Cay­man, too.

With the aid of a turbo – a break from ev­ery other, s’charged F-Type – peak power and torque is 295bhp/295lb ft. Those are 40bhp and 37lb ft deficits on the near-£2,500 pricier V6 340PS, the old en­try point to F-Type own­er­ship.
