SO, WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

-

Volkswagen T-Roc What should I know?

It’s VW’s new mini crossover in (nearly) its most basic form, a 113bhp 1.0-litre petrol SE with FWD and a manual. From £20,425.

Should I care?

Depends how much you want a crossover. The T-Roc is more fun to drive than most rivals, but it’s pretty uninspiring – inside and out – without fancy spec and colours. A similarly powered 5dr Golf is £500 cheaper and more nicely appointed inside. If not as ‘on trend’…

BMW 530e What should I know?

That if you’re a company car driver, having one of these over a 520d might save you thousands. Because BMW claims 141mpg and 46g/km CO , the 2 BIK tax rate is way, way lower.

Should I care?

If the PHEV-y drivetrain suits your lifestyle, sure. On a 75-mile inter-London commute we saw mid-50s mpg. That was with a full charge. Quiet, comfy and relaxing with it, too. If you’re running on empty, expect something in the 30s.

Suzuki Ignis Adventure What should I know?

It’s the heroic little Ignis from our big ice test (p90), but in new special-edition trim. At £13,999, it adds decals and skid plates for a more rough ’n’ tumble look.

Should I care?

If you want your city car’s styling to be fun, yes. It’s the gnarliest-looking Ignis. While its 90bhp 1.2-litre matches the rest of the range, the Adventure isn’t offered with 4WD; if you need some proper off-road (or icy) kudos then pay £1k more for an Ignis SZ5 with 4WD and more tech inside.
