WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? When the French do a rally car for the road, it looks like – well, a Renault 5 Turbo or a Peugeot 205 T16. When the Brits do it, it looks like a kid’s attempted to turn a Rover Metro into a spaceship using only papier mâché and Tippex. Year Two science project visuals aside, the Metro 6R4 Clubman was quite a thing. The homologation version of British Leyland’s Group B rally effort built by Williams F1, it made 250bhp courtesy of a V6 engine that would later find life in the Jaguar XJ220.
