Director Colin Trevorrow Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard ETA 12 June

“Remember, if something chases you, run...” jokes Judy Greer at the beginning of the Jurassic World trailer, as she packs off kids Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson for a trip to the all-new dino theme park. Unsurprisingly, it’s not long before they’re doing just that – but it’s what they’re running from that’s got everybody talking.

Yep, after years of script development, casting rumours, changing directors and, at one point, a ‘permanent’ hiatus, Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow is taking us back to Isla Nublar. This time, the park is up and running, boasting attractions including a Gallimimus ride-along and a Sea World-riffing feeding time with the giant Mosasaurus. Trouble is, people are getting bored with the park’s inhabitants, with visitor attendance dwindling. Cue scientist (Bryce Dallas Howard) playing god, creating a new “genetically modified hybrid” that quickly gets a taste for human flesh – with dinosaur behaviour expert Chris Pratt attempting to lead the survivors to safety.

According to Trevorrow, the park’s head honchos are aiming for “something bigger, louder, with more teeth” to draw in the crowds. And while the trailer doesn’t give much of a glimpse at the new beastie it sounds like that’s what they’re going to get... “We aren’t doing anything that Crichton didn’t suggest in his novels,” says the director. “It’s a natural evolution from the first film.”

Taking his cue from the original, Trevorrow’s dinos will once again be realised with a blend of practical and digital effects, with Legacy Effects hired to build animatronic models and ILM working the CGI. Phil Tippett is also returning for his ONE JOB as ‘Dinosaur Supervisor’. Lucky for us, it looks like he still hasn’t learned his lesson...

Jurassic World opens on 12 June.
