The chilling fields

-

Despite mentally preparing myself for the challenge, wrapping myself in several warm layers and setting off to the cinema in a blizzard, I’m sorry to have to say it, but The Revenant felt more of an unremitting combination of Bear Grylls on a depressingly bad acid trip/survival challenge, what with the annoying campmates, the eating everything, sheltering in anything, the wet, the cold, the moaning, etc; and a Timewatch special about the bodily repair capacity of Evel Knievel! I found it all a drag, quite literally in Leo’s case for half the film, and even Tom’s nutter couldn’t pull it out of the mire. In conclusion the film should have been called The Decrement (another word no one knows the meaning of), as the more I watched the more my enjoyment decreased. Although, lovely scenery!

DAV EY WARWICK, VIA EMAIL I want to bring to your attention that The

Revenant resembles greatly 1971’s Man In The Wilderness starring Richard Harris. However, there is no mention of the resemblance anywhere. Please make the public aware as Man In The Wilderness was a great movie as well. Thank you.

FARAH SHAHEEN, VIA EMAIL Yes, like Leo’s movie, Man In The

Wilderness is based on the legend of Hugh Glass. If the gods of Blu-ray are wise, they’ll release a hi-def version soon; we need confirm that one of Harris’ co-stars sings the theme tune, as per the legend of Dennis Waterman. As for the title The

Revenant, it does sound a bit like one of those interchangeable horrors based on a true exorcism; if it hadn’t already been taken, Shattered Glass would’ve been perfect. Or The People Under The Bears.
