Who scares wins
Breaking down the trailer of the reinvigorated Ghostbusters.
Gloopy ghosts
In what appears to be the team’s first paranormal encounter, professor Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) approaches a glowy ghoul before taking a torrent of ’busters goo full in the face. “That stuff went everywhere,” she tells her mates.
Girl crush
Speaking of, is McKinnon going to steal the show? Her dazzling array of comedy expressions have already sent Twitter into meltdown (“My sexuality = Kate McKinnon winking” tweeted one fan). Her A-list compadres have competition...
Amping up
With the ’busters assembled by spooks expert Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), they quickly discover somebody is “amplifying paranormal activity”. Cue an explosion of spooks in what looks like one of the film’s coolest set-pieces.
Slime time
While Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver all cameo, it really wouldn’t be Ghostbusters without Slimer. He’s one of the reboot’s many spooks, which all boast the glowy ’busters aesthetic of yesteryear. Ah, nostalgia.
Trapped out
It’s been 30 years since Bill Murray and co first pulled on their proton packs so the tech’s due a bit of an upgrade. Thanks to “brilliant engineer” Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), we’ll be getting new gadgets like this laser-powered trap.
Patty party
Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) is the subway worker whose NYC nous makes her an invaluable addition to the team. With the character yelling things like “I’m mad as hell!” and “The power of Patty compels you,” could she also be a celluloid nut?
Working guy
Meanwhile, dreamy secretary Kevin (Chris Hemsworth) declares: “We need to build something to fight these damn ghosts.” He promptly hops onto motorcycle Ecto-2, suggesting he’ll be anything but deskbound in the film.
Time squared
What’s this? A blink-miss shot suggests the ladies could find themselves in the ’70s – check out the Times Square billboards for Taxi Driver and The Isle Of The Snake People, hinting there might be a time-travel element to the reboot... JW
