EMMA BOOTH
Was this film tough to make?
Oh, it was so tough to make. We only had four weeks to shoot it in and hardly any money – $1.6 million. And so we were just powering through this, 12 to 13-hour days, and staying in this crazy emotional space the whole time. I’d get home completely wired.
How challenging was it shooting those intense torture scenes?
Ashleigh [ Cummings], who plays Vicki, was so frickin’ traumatised. We all were
– we had to just hug constantly beforehand. There was so much love. It was like we were a family. There was a lot of communication that allowed us to get the performances we did.
Was it difficult to find Evelyn, the character that you play?
It took two hours every day to transform into Evelyn. [ There was a] lot of ageing and tattoo-paint sprayed on me, fake teeth and eyes… but the minute I got into her, this character just came out. But it was confronting. [ For the nude scenes,] they’re not my breasts! I only got told two days before I saw the film the first time… they did CGI after to make my boobs more saggy! I was panicking, thinking, “People who don’t know me are going to think that’s my body!” JM
